Your app list stays on your Mac. License activation uses the purchase email and a random device identifier to keep one license on one Mac. Current has no analytics.
The app
Current reads the apps and command-line tools installed on your Mac to find their versions. That list stays on your Mac. To check for newer versions, Current contacts:
- Each app’s own update feed, the same address the app itself checks, for apps that use Sparkle or Electron.
- Homebrew’s public catalog at formulae.brew.sh. Current downloads the whole catalog and matches it on your Mac, so it never sends which apps you have.
- Apple’s App Store lookup, for apps that came from the App Store. This sends the app’s bundle identifier, one app at a time.
- The download address of an update, when you install one.
- Current’s own update feed on GitHub, to check for new versions of Current. This sends no information about your Mac.
Like any web request, these servers see your IP address. When license activation is enabled, the licensing service will store the purchase email, a hash of the license key, a random device identifier and activation status. It will not receive your installed app list. Current doesn’t collect analytics, crash reports or usage data.
On your Mac, Current keeps its settings in macOS preferences and uses ~/Library/Application Support/Current while it installs updates.
Buying Current
Payments will be handled by Dodo Payments, which receives what it needs to process your order and send your receipt. Currentmac will store your purchase email, payment reference, license-key hash and random device identifier to issue and validate a one-device license, answer support requests, and handle refunds. We won’t store your payment card details or sell your information.
